Santonio Holmes is a Jet

11 Apr

Speak of the devil. Sure the Jets added a douchebag to their squad, but he’s a 1200+ yard douchebag who is now teamed with Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery and Dustin Keller in Mark Sanchez’s arsenal.

For a reported fifth rounder? This could be a steal for New York, even if he does serve a rumored four game suspension. As a Dolfan I of course hope this backfires horribly. Still, I have to respect the brashness of Rex Ryan’s regime. They won’t always make the right moves, but they ain’t afraid to shake it up.

Silver lining? This probably means that the Jets won’t take a wide receiver with their first rounder, making it slightly more likely that Arrelious, Demaryius or Golden might fall to us at pick 43 if we miss out or pass on Dez (How about those WR names?).

Armando makes a good point in his blog today…it might mean the jets don’t take a WR in round 1, but the Steelers might, so it might end up being a wash for us. Though it’s speculated they need a CB more than a WR. What is more concerning is with WR no longer a need for the jets, they could get that pass rushing specialist they lack via J. Hughes in round 1. This blows! Hopefully they blow up a la the Redskins.

    GO FINS!!

I don’t see the Steelers going WR in round 1. They signed two this offseason (including Randle-El), and have Mike Wallace ready to step in.

Stillers won’t go WR in Round 1. And Santonio to Jets? Pfft. The man’s got talent, but that receiving corps is crowded, the QB’s suddenly facing MASSIVE expectations while also hitting ye olde sophomore slumpe and working with a bunch of egomaniacs. I predict implosion.

Plus, Santonio’s moving to The City That Never Sleeps – right AFTER he supposedly professed his desire to move to a “big-time market” once his contract was up in Pittsburgh. Bad portents, indeed. He may very well put up some okay numbers or big games here and there, but I don’t see this ending well (think Plaxico) or turning into an extended success story. Plus, he misses the first four games – how’s he going to come in in game five and become the #1 guy? Bah!

Good to hear from you again, Joelsburg. I hope Sanchez does have a sophomore slump. Hell, he threw 8 more interceptions than touchdowns last season, yet people are treating him like the second coming. And I wouldn’t mind at all if Santonio floundered in NYC.

So does Earl Thomas become more of a priority now that the jets have some offensive firepower? I still take Dez in a heartbeat but we’re gonna need a FS asap.

    GO FINS!!

We need a #1 WR that defenses HAVE to respect. When you don’t have that, defenses all cheat towards the line. It throws the entire game plan off. It’s remarkable that we rushed for as many yards as we did, considering defenses don’t have to respect the deep ball at all.

If Will Allen, or Nate Allen, or Reshad Jones, or Chris Clemons is back there at FS instead of Earl Thomas for the Dolphins next season I don’t believe it will have as huge an impact on the season as the WR problem. We’d still have a Pro Bowl SS and two up and coming cornerbacks. Not to mention those 2nd and 3rd round safety prospects are nothing to sneeze at.

I also don’t know if having Soliai or Lival Joseph, or Torell Troup or Jeff Owens in the middle instead of Dan Williams is going to be a horrible season-defining problem.

So, if Dez is there, he’s still the guy who can make our offense immediately dangerous through the air, and thus alter how defenses have to treat us every single game. The question is, if he’s gone, or if we look elsewhere, will Benn, Demaryius or Golden Tate be waiting for us at 43?

I’m starting to freak out, just a little…

One other shred of hope I’m clinging to with the Jets thing, is that maybe Sanchez simply ain’t that great? We’ve seen glimpses, but it’s way to early to crown him the next Peyton Manning. Maybe he struggles? All of these targets won’t matter much if he can’t hit ’em, or if he’s hanging onto the ball too long, and Cameron Wake plants him like a turnip.

man im so mad they only gave up a 5th round pick for a player this great that really makes me mad

It was a bargain for Santonio. Hypothetically a team could have suddenly had Brandon Marshall and Santonio Holmes at WR for two 2nds and a 5th? Wild.
