UFC 256, Reshad vs Atogwe, The Miami Massacre. June 1st. PPV

3 May

The Dolphins next mini-camp is at the end of this month, May 28th through 30th. There, position battles will begin to take shape, judgements will be made, tears will be shed.

But what makes this late-May a smidgeon more interesting than usual? 48-hours after camp concludes the Rams are widely expected to cut O.J. Atogwe rather than paying him the $6.3 million he’s slated to receive. Darren Sharper has re-signed with the Saints, leaving OJ as easily the most intriguing free safety still in play.

The festivities in Davie at the end of this month are huge for Reshad Jones, who fell to Miami from the stars, like a magical, glowing comet in shoulder pads. He’s got a great shot at lining up as a starter in week 1.

What about Culver and Clemons you ask? They could be legit options, but we’re not buying it. If the Trifecta was smitten by either of those youngsters, they might not have offered over six-million plus a year to Antrel Rolle this offseason. If Reshad has a hell of a camp I expect the Dolphins to pencil him in opposite Yeremiah Bell. Again, this is only May, and there’s lots of time.

But there may not be time to waste if Miami wants to secure Atogwe’s services. This is what makes thoroughly kicking the tires on Reshad this month so important. There are a handful of teams with questions at free safety, and I expect the market for OJ to be fast and furious should he be released on June 1st.

Atogwe is coming off of shoulder surgery, and there are rumors of a sports hernia, but no one questions his ball skills and ability to create turnovers. It would take serious money to sign him, but perhaps Smiley’s considerable paycheck could be simply transferred into Atogwe’s name.

Or, if they like what they see out of Reshad “Crazylegs” Jones in the days leading up to OJ’s release, The Trifecta can let it ride with the talented rookie they traded up to get last weekend.

Atogwe may need this done to him, but Reshad is all set down there.

Go Cowboys? Um…alright. Go Cowboys it is. In fact, Atogwe’s got a good shot of ending up in Dallas. So, if Reshad’s the real deal at free safety I say yes Atogwe, go (to the) Cowboys. I’d rather him help an NFC team.
