Google Exposes Jets Hype Machine

20 Jul

An inexact experiment performed this evening by The Bottlenose, while surfing the World Wide Web on our futuristic, portable computer machine.

Google “Chad Henne”? 207,000 hits.

Google “Mark Sanchez”? 742,000 hits.

Chad Henne had a better and more prolific college career. He’s been in the league twice as long. He’s been better as a pro so far too. So why more than three times as many hits for Sanchez?

Answer? Media bias. New York City. The Jets, destined to win the Lombardi. A face fit for a J. Crew catalog. Sanchez is already “The Golden Boy”. Perhaps “The Gold-Plated Boy” will be more fitting?

I say Henne hoists the trophy first.

NY is a bigger market, and Sanchez has also been covered for Injury, weinergate, and the Sanchize label.

Yes, but aren’t we minimizing the effect of Henne’s cooking victory on Rachael Ray? 🙂

In addition to the bigger market argument which is true, they did as a team make the championship game, so as a team one would expect them to get more media attention that a team that wen’t 7-9 and missed the playoffs altogether. Plus Rex Ryan is a loud mouth and therefore is quotable. As a result, the Jets get mentioned more. If the Jets get mentioned than a young high draft choice at QB will likely get mentioned as well whether he is in in fact better or not. A Ginn catch and Wilson tackle or two might have changed that situation and balanced it out more.

Wow, I am having a slow day. I just spelled “went” with an apostrophe

No worries. I’ve always argued that “wen’t” should be the “we not” contraction. As in, “How can wen’t release Merling?”

You could also include Madden 11 giving Sanchez a higher ranking (82) than Henne (79).

Let Sanchize and the Jests get all the media hoopla – I would prefer we get little press and lots of victories.

It will be interesting to watch the hype vs production with Sanchez. I think Flacco, Henne, Kolb and Stafford could all be better than Marky-poo on the field.
