Ahmad Bradshaw, Future Dolphin?

17 Aug

Anyone get a look at Mr. Bradshaw last night? A bit on the small side, currently weighing in at 200lbs, but he’s certainly a heck of a playmaker. Made a 51-yard shovel pass look like a piece of cake. The little guy is also set to become a free agent in five months.

Again, plenty of immediate Dolphin news to sink our teeth into, with preseason in full swing, and the regular season fast approaching. Still, we think it’s also worth keeping an eye on the future. This future includes an injury prone, free agent to be in Ronnie Brown. This future also includes a free spirit named Ricky Williams, with a wandering heart, and non-pigskin pursuits.

This future could also include Ahmad. It isn’t completely clear how the Giants will split time between slugger Brandon Jacobs and the home run hitter Bradshaw.  Jacobs has three years remaining on a 25 million dollar contract. If New York prefers Bradshaw they could jettison Jacobs and lock the speedster up. Or they could dedicate huge money to a shared backfield. The Giants also have a couple of budding offensive stars already on their hands with Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith, who they’d be smart to extend sooner rather than later.

Again, this is all speculation. It’s impossible to predict the future, and there are many variables in play. But it’s nice to know that there may be some solutions (please also see our previous post about 2011 free agent Deangelo Williams, https://thebottlenose.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/dolphins-2011-starting-rb-deangelo-williams/ ), if we’re forced to move on from Ronnie, Ricky, or both.

Couldn’t carry the load without Ronnie B. What a dumb article.

For the record, no one said he could carry the load by himself. I can’t find that anywhere in the piece. The point is that he could help “if we’re forced to move on from Ricky, Ronnie or both”.

But thanks for the comment, Joe!

who cares about someone who isnt on our team this year? we’re 3 weeks away from football this year and your talking about possibilities of next year? let’s rally around who we have. I’d rather have ronnie brown and ricky williams than that flash in the pan jacobs and an undersized bradshaw anyway! are you kidding?

        Glenn,

That’s why 95% of our articles are about this season.

But make no mistake, even with kickoff just weeks away, the top brass is also considering next year too. They’re watching Ronnie’s return closely, wondering if he’s still got the burst, if he can hold up another year, how big a new contract is too big for an aging, injury prone back, at what price point they might have to let him sign somewhere else.

They’re wondering if Ricky will walk into the Big Tuna’s office to tack another year onto his contract, or if he’ll be hanging up his cleats 20 or so weeks from now to massage people.

And they are also fully aware of what the free agent crop may look like this Winter. Ask Jeff Ireland who the FA running backs will be after this year. I bet you’d get 15 names off the top of his head.

If you think it’s a joke to discuss the future of Miami beyond February, the joke’s on you.

        Thanks for visiting The Bottlenose!
Go Dolphins, in 2010 and beyond!!!

I think Ahmad is gonna blow the league this year. But I don’t think the Phins are going to consider him. Especially with Ronnie B is most likely coming back.

Ronnie’s great, but if Ricky bolts and Brown stays, and we’re depending on #23 to stay healthy, we’d better have another quality back around to take some of the load.

You guys are stupid to think the Giants aren’t going to keep Bradshaw. The mans the NFL’s #1 rusher. If anything they release Brandon Jacobs because there is no way the Giants are letting Bradshaw become a free agent!

      Hey Sweetheart,

Check the date of the article before you go calling people stupid. Clearly we thought he had the goods before the season even started. Obvious the Giants would be smart to lock him up.
