Patrick Cobbs vs Nolan Carroll: Two Men Enter, One Man Returns

23 Aug

The other challengers have fallen by the wayside. Davis, Grice-Mullen, Sperry,  all waived or injured. The stage is set for the most anticipated special teams position battle in 2010 Miami Dolphins history. The cagey veteran versus the new kid on the block. “The Shaved Head” versus “The Dread”. The ultimate battle for kick return duties. A look at our warriors:

Height/Weight: 5’8″, 210lbs
College: North Texas
40 yard dash: 4.68

Career average per return: 20.5 yards

Height/Weight: 6’1″, 202lbs
College: Maryland
40 yard dash: 4.39

Career average per return: 25.4 yards (Preseason)

Carroll wins after a fourth round KO (preseason week 4, at Dallas). His 51-yard return cements his spot. Cobbs is steady, but his average is 18-inches better than a kneel-down in the end zone. Sparano decides he needs to maximize field position for his offense, and employ a return man with the ability to take it the distance each and every touch. After three seasons of experience as a returner, it’s clear Cobbs is not that man.
