Whew! Dolphins Add Return Stud Clifton Smith

8 Sep

Wow. The Bottlenose had just published this scathing article about the state of Miami’s return game, when the Clifton “Peanut” Smith rumors started swirling (Why is it that rumors always “swirl”?). Make no bones about it, the Dolphins have added a stud to their team, in an area that sorely needed one.

Last year Mr. Smith averaged almost a full ten yards more than Patrick Cobbs’ 20.5 yard career mark. We absolutely could not head into the season settling for the equivalent of a kneel down in the end zone. Smith also was one of only 12 players to average over ten yards per punt return as well, substantially better than Davone Bess’ average. The Dolphins could use Smith to upgrade our entire return game, allowing Cobbs, Carroll and Bess to concentrate on their usual duties.

Great move by our Dolphins. Kick and punt returns represent about a hundred opportunities to make huge, game-altering plays per season.  Miami just brought in a Pro Bowler who can and will make a difference. Welcome aboard, Peanut.

Another typical trifecta signing. Clifton Smith is and has been injured for most of his career. He missed the first two preseason games this year due to pain in his knees which is realted to gout. Most of last year he didn’t play because of concussions that kept happening. All that being said and people think he is a good pick up? Go smoke some more stuff!

And if we were signing him to play running back, I would be much more concerned. A handful of touches a game? I still say it’s a great move. He is elite at the position, and you don’t often happen upon a guy like that four days before the season starts. Besides, Patrick Cobbs already returns kicks like he has gout.

Let’s agree to disagree, Bob. Thanks for stopping by The Bottlenose.

Are they now the bifecta? Or has the quadfecta returned to trifecta status, wtf (what the fecta)!

Still the Trifecta ’til Bill’s officially gone Then either they’re the bifecta, or they can adopt Nolan into the Tri. Or bring Henning and Nolan in to form a Quadfecta. It’s all very complex.
