Booing Jason Taylor is a Zero Class Move

22 Sep

If you find yourself booing Jason Taylor  this Sunday night then you need to take a long, hard look at yourself as a football fan.

That simple act will spit in the face of twelve hard years JT spent proudly battling for the Dolphins. This man and his Brother-in-Law gave us fans something to hang our hats on for seemingly countless years, while the front office played a tragic game of musical quarterbacks.

Jason is going to stand at mid-field and be inducted into our Ring of Honor. This is a legendary talent who will enter the Hall of Fame in aqua and coral. We were and are fortunate to count him as one of the greatest Dolphins ever.

How many players enjoy that long of a tenure with one club anymore? Are we so spoiled my Marino’s 17 years that we’ll turn on another Dolphin legend for wanting to keep playing when our top brass thought he was pretty much done? When Jason Taylor’s name is announced Sunday night I hope we don’t show our blowholes on National television.

There’s only one move that will show our appreciation for twelve hard years of service, in a business that has players hopping from team to team like multi-millionaire nomads. Only one move will show Jason the respect he deserves, for every play he wreaked havoc in the backfield, and for every hour he winced on the trainers table, and for every time he took one the other way for a Dolphins TD when our own offense was barely moving the ball.

When Jason Taylor’s name once again echoes through those speakers, there will be only one move for the true Dolphin faithful. We will stand and make some noise for #99. No matter what color he’s wearing now, he did us proud.

Don’t ever forget that.

I’m sorry but u seem to completely miss the point – JT is now a JET! Whatever his past with the Phins – & let’s be clear the time to celebrate that WOULD be when he’s inducted to the ring or HOF – he now plays for not just an opponent but the Jets! Hello! Are you seriously suggesting that fans should only boo opposition players that haven’t had any previous ties with the Phins? Or JT should be an exception because he was a previously exceptional Phin? This is football in all it’s visceral glory & the enemy is just that – the enemy! If u can’t see that might I suggest u start covering another sport, one that doesn’t involve teams!

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:43 pm #

      Ronnie,

I want you to boo your ass off. And so will I. Never, once the hitting starts, will I do anything but root for my team to stomp a mudhole in Rex, Gang Green, and Jason too.

But when players are introduced, we can show a little respect for his 12 years as a Dolphin, and for the fact that his differences with The Trifecta (including being traded away like some schmuck) have made the end of his AMAZING career messy.

Or we can all go on some witch hunt, and act like Jason coming home in green is like killing our first born children.

I think I know which one the angry mob will choose.

  2. kid September 23, 2010 at 2:38 am #

Are you for real?? Did you forget Dancing with the Stars and was too good to go to mini camps and practice to help younger players? Loyalty from him? Ya he will say things in the public to make himself out to look like the good guy but in truth he is all about himself and absolutly no loyalty from him!!!!! He goes to Washington to come back and why just because we won the divisioin hoping to get a ring. He in no way helps us out so we give him an offer to stay but he rejects it and makes a commitment to wait to be signed after the draft and what right before the draft goes to the _____ Jets? Why did he do that because all the hype that the Jets won it all this year? You want to say we have Zero Class for booing him? Who are you righting this Jason himself??? If not find another dam team to write about!!! Dolphin fans are Class and completly Loyal to our players that show us the same in respect!!! Just one name for ya Dan Marino!!

  3. Gary September 23, 2010 at 3:43 am #

Sorry, disagree with this thread, first respondent pretty well summed it up. If I were at the stadium I would boo him long and hard. You can’t expect to go to the division rival and get the love. The fact that he is going to be put in the ring of honor, while a Jet, makes me sick.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:28 pm #

Clarification. He’s not going to be put in the Ring of Honor this weekend. They would never do that while he’s with another team. They’ll schedule it after he retires as a Dolphin.

  4. Gary September 23, 2010 at 3:46 am #

I meant to say the “second” respondent hit the nail on the head (Kid), not the first (although the first poster, Ronniec, has a good point as well).

  5. TRICKY September 23, 2010 at 4:02 am #

WELL SAID HES A JET. HE GETS NO RESPECT FROM ME. HE COULD HAVE GONE TO ANY OTHER TEAM BUT SLAPPED ALL DOLPHIN FANS IN THE FACE WITH THIS MOVE. REMEMBER RESPECT IS EARNED NOT GIVIN AND CAN BE TAKEN AWAY JUST LIKE EVERY THING ELSE. I HOPE THEY BOO THE CRAP OUT OF THIS GUY.

  6. Will September 23, 2010 at 4:23 am #

Guy would still be a Dolphin today but Phins were going a different direction and gave him little choice. Hate to tell you people but pro football is a business – he was no more or less loyal to the team than the team was to him. Ill be there and cheering for him. Booing Jason just shows that you are too small minded to understand that.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:26 pm #

Will, you think these people will boo him when he is added to the Ring of Honor?

  7. fin72fan September 23, 2010 at 5:20 am #

JT is all about JT. I hope the oline mauls him like a pack of wolves. I was surprised we took twinkletoes back after not showing up to training camp. I hate gage green.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:45 pm #

Gage Green plays for the Panthers now.

  8. FtheNYJETS September 23, 2010 at 5:42 am #

Well I had to sign up just to post this. First off this article pisses me off and shows that who ever wrote this is a idiot. Why? Because Marino could have left and played for the Vikings but he said that he was a Miami boy and that he rather retire than hurt the fans and his heart wouldnt let him leave etc. Bryan Cox left BUT he hated the BILLS like J Taylor hated the Jets. Cox would have never played for the Bills. Are you starting to see the picture here? JT WAS OFFERED A FN CONTRACT AND HE TURNED IT DOWN PERIOD. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Zach Thomas was not happy with the decesion either and i can pretty much bet that JT could have signed else where as the sticking Jets wont be winning a GD Championship anytime soon. If i ever get rich enough to buy the Dolphins I would take his freaking name off my ring of honor as he is the biggest yellow belly traitor MIAMI HAS EVER HAD. I could care less what he did for 12 years with Miami. If I want to think about the all time greats, i rahter think about the folks that loved Miami and hated the JETS. If JT would have signed with the bills or pats, it would not have been that bad. You are rich, want to be a actor and then win a superbowl ring with a team that is one of the worste franchises and fans in the nfl?? I rather be rich, happy, etc and retire a PHIN then to ever be associated with a JET. FUCK JT I HOPE HE BREAKS HIS NECK.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:03 pm #

We fired Jason. We fired him and sent him away to Washington after a decade of excellence. Who was the traitor then? Ten years with one NFL team is like 40 years with a company in the real world. We fired his ass.

Funny how so many people could say, “Well, it’s a tough business” back then when Parcells made that move. Now it’s like JT murdered someone.

  9. gary September 23, 2010 at 5:57 am #

    Will:

Your argument is that people who dont agree with you are small minded. That argument is in itself small minded, and thus, makes you a hypocrite.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 7:56 pm #

Yes, but if a tree falls in the woods…

  10. DRex September 23, 2010 at 6:03 am #

Bingo, as long as he’s a jet, he’s the enemy. Boo him relentlessly.

  11. David September 23, 2010 at 6:05 am #

I couldn’t agree more with you Dan. JT did everything and more when he was here and WANTED to stay. For whatever business or philosophical reasons, the front office didn’t offer him a contract. (let me dumb it down for the others that have posted on here – he COULDN’T have signed here. It was IMPOSSIBLE. They did not offer him a contract). That said, the one thing your post proves is that a large majority of people that respond to football blogs have either never been to a football game, don’t understand football or are just plain limited in their brain functionality (that means you’re dumb). I hope the fans actually in attendance do the right thing. It hurts to see him in that puke green, but better to stay quiet than boo if you truly feel that way. Personally, I’ll be cheering like a %itch in heat. Keep up the great work.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 12:09 pm #

Is this the same Jason Taylor that we traded away after a decade of blood, sweat and toil?

  12. Agua September 23, 2010 at 9:46 am #

Don’t push your sanctimonious crap on me. You enjoy your sports your way, and I’ll enjoy them my way. Why is that not fair, or is a desire to control others a character flaw you have?

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 10:10 am #

My bad, Agua. I originally turned in an amazing article titled ‘Some Dolphin Fans to Applaud Jason Taylor, Others Will Not, Because It’s a Free Country’, but my editor thought I was playing both sides of the fence.

      • Agua September 23, 2010 at 1:31 pm #

Then your editor is a prime example of what is wrong with America today – no such thing as balance, only an agenda to push. He needs to be fired.

      • danewen September 23, 2010 at 1:50 pm #

I will tell him, but just to clarify, are you saying we should have no opinions or editorials at all?

  13. TRICKY September 23, 2010 at 12:14 pm #

JT WAS OFFER A CONTRACT IN FEBUARY RIGHT AFTER THE SB, HE DECIDED TO DRINK THE JETS KOOLAID (WE CALL IT REX RYAN PISS) AND DECIDED HE WANTS MORE MONEY THAN HE IS WORTH. HE LEFT HERE FOR WASHINGTON FOR THE SAME REASON. WHEN HE DID NOTHING THERE BUT GET HURT HE CAME RUNNING BACK TO US TO PLAY HERE. HE CAME BACK HERE AND DID MORE OF NOTHING AND THOUGHT BECEAUSE HE HAD 6-8 GREAT YEARS HE WAS STILL WORTH SOMETHING. WE OFFERED HIM FAIR MARKET VALUE FOR A WASHED UP INJURED VET THAT HAS LOST A STEP OR TWO. REX PULLED OUT HIS WANG AND JASON GRABBED AND DRANK??? BOO HIS F&*#& ASS SUNDAY AND MAKE HIM REGRET THAT SLAP IN THE FACE HE GAVE ALL US TRUE DOLPHIN FANS. PISS ON HIM TRAITOR!!!!!:(:(:(:(

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 12:45 pm #

      Hey Tricky,

He left for Washington ’cause Bill Parcells fired him and sent him there.

Also, your caps lock key is stuck.

    • phishphace September 23, 2010 at 2:07 pm #

All caps is the sign of an idiot. He has the right to play for a team that is currently showing him more respect. The Tuna and Tony knew they had gold in their new ends, making JT redundant and they made JT an offer that they knew any self-respecting athlete would decline. Obviously, you are not a dol-fan, just one of those drains on society who call in to talk radio and only know two tones – angry and stupid. A true Dol-fan has nothing but love for one of the greatest men to ever wear the aqua and orange, and only a poser would stoop to such petty hate.

      • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:18 pm #

        Where’s the LIKE button?

  14. Ryan September 23, 2010 at 6:14 pm #

You’re an idiot. I was literally married wearing a #99 jersey. He betrayed us, and comes into our home wearing a jets jersey. I reserve the right to boo and heckle anyone wearing a jets jersey. Jason knows this, he was there. He betrayed me, and I’ll boo him early and often. Don’t get me wrong, I hate Parcells for his role in all of this too. Together they really screwed the fans.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:07 pm #

Well this “idiot” hopes Jason Taylor signing with the Jets after 12 years in Miami (and being traded away by the current front office)is the worst “betrayal” you, and any of the other people on this thread ever have to deal with.

  15. Ryan September 23, 2010 at 6:29 pm #

I understand this is a business…. I’m in the business of booing the jets. And business is good.

    • danewen September 23, 2010 at 8:16 pm #

And I’ll be in the business of booing the Jets too. Every effing play…

But not when one of the greatest Dolphins ever is introduced, before the hitting starts. A player who was literally sent packing by The Trifecta before any of this crap (and I’m assuming after your wedding).

I’ll give him his due. But it looks like it’s just going to be a nice opportunity for people to pretend this was a black and white situation, and some sort of ungrateful villain is returning to town to stab us in the heart.

      Rolling my eyes right about…here.

  16. InFINcible September 24, 2010 at 1:51 pm #

Eff JT…he’s a jet and that’s all that matters. I hope he tears his knee running out of the tunnel Sunday Night. Too bad we don’t get to vote on who goes in the Ring of Honor because once he became a jet he lost that Honor. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if his middle name began with “E” making him a J.E.T. for life.

Regardless of whether or not he had a contract offer from the Fins I find it hard to believe he couldn’t have signed with any of the other THIRTY teams in the league. You wanna keep playing go play for someone else, but the frreakin’ jets…are you kidding me?!

If Marino chose to keep playing and signed with Pittsburgh or Minnesota I would’ve been fine with that for the way he was pushed out. But had he signed with Buffalo, jets, or the Pats he’d be dead to me too, and that’s saying a lot.

I LOVE the Fins, the team…players come and go. I hope he gets the welcoming of a jet; before, during, and after the game. Screw JT, the jets.

  17. InFINcible September 24, 2010 at 2:04 pm #

Someone posted this on the Sun-Sentinel today about Zach going to watch his low-life bro-in-law vs. the Pats on Sunday…this is way Zach Thomas is head and shoulders above JT.

    —–

One of the reason’s Zach Thomas is my second favorite Dolphins behind Marino:

“I was just up in New York to watch Jason play, and I was up in Woody Johnson’s box, and the whole game I’m just sitting there. I’m not cheering for either team. I was hoping they would both lose…. [Jets] fans always look back to see Woody Johnson’s reaction when they have a good play. … I was just cheering for Jason, [and] when he had that big sack, I stood up and the fans turned around to see Woody Johnson’s reaction, and then they saw me and it was like somebody just slapped their momma.”

    • danewen September 24, 2010 at 2:38 pm #

Wait, so Zach has found a way to root for the man, but not for the Jets? I believe #54 has cracked the code. Thanks for this, Infincible!

      • InFINcible September 24, 2010 at 4:24 pm #

When you marry into the family let me know…with those jets you never know, JT just might swing that way…

Listen I don’t expect everyone to share the same views. I for one don’t like him anymore and think he commited the unforgiveable, but that’s just me. Regardless, whether you wish him success and not the jets (even though no matter how you slice it that benefits them) none of that should matter this Sunday. I think he should be booed start to finish just like the rest of them.

He made his bed and now he has to lay in it..hopefully in the AFC East cellar.

        GO FINS!!

      • danewen September 26, 2010 at 7:36 am #

I wish him zero success on the field with the Jets. Zero. But he got worked by the Dolphins, before he ever did and working of his own. And The Trifecta is let off the hook time and time again in this discussion.
