Miami Speed Movement Continues with Arizona Running Back Nic Grigsby

25 Jul

Reports this evening have the Dolphins signing (or about to sign, as signings aren’t “official” just yet) undrafted burner Nic Grigsby out of Arizona. A sub 4.4 40 yards dash and, from the look of it, some nice ankle-breaking ability. We found this impressive write-up at Fantasyfootballmetrics.com. And of course, please enjoy the Youtube highlights, complete with the obligatory instrumental rap song.

#6b = Nic Grigsby, Undrafted Free Agent (Arizona)…If you are looking for the single best 2011 RB prospect from an all-around physical standpoint — it is Nic Grigsby. A sub-4.4 40-yard dash, the best agility metrics among the 2011 RBs, the highest vertical jump for a RB in our database history, the best broad jump among the 2011 RBs, a decent size at 5’11, 199 pounds and an above average bench press…no one is close to Grigsby physically across-the-board in this draft, or almost any other draft. The obvious question, why didn’t Grigsby get drafted? I read/hear — fumble issues (he has a decent hand-size, so no issue there), he had some injury issues, and general college inconsistencies.

His actual college performance was not great in the past 2 seasons, but as a Sophomore — Grigsby ran for 1,153 yards and had 13 TDs. Grigsby finished his career 2nd all-time at Arizona with 28 rushing TDs. Honestly, I have no idea why some team didn’t take chance — there may be something off-field, but I have yet to find it. If you want to “swing for the fences”, this is your pick — knowing you may strikeout. I doubt anyone is going to have Grigsby on their Dynasty Rookie Draft list. BEST COLLEGE DATA MATCH = Reggie Bush

Injury prone thru his whole career @ AZ. Hopefully that isn’t Jeff Ireland’s top target for undrafted players.

Agreed. Hope we went after Locke, Devine. I like Fannin too. Perhaps we’re committed to making a splash with veteran RBs?

Not true, He got hit hard in Iowa two years ago and it was one of those injury’s that let him hit his stride again.. BUT his senior year he didn’t get hurt all year and i think the way this kid has been working he’s going to be real good for years to come, We enjoyed him while we had him at AZ, Also he doesn’t have any off the field issues, Never in trouble, He does speak his mind but never got suspended for it.

Great to hear. The kid is a physical freak, and I would be glad to add his playmaking ability to the 53-man roster. Thanks for stopping by The Bottlenose.
