Randolph Channing Crowder unexpectedly hung up his cleats today, having been recently clipped by the SoFlo Sea Mammals, the only pro team he’s ever known. Crowder is only 27, and could certainly have signed to compete for a job somewhere else. The NFL is a landscape of fierce competitors, who far often than not scratch and claw to stay in the league as long as possible. But rather than adding a footnote year or two onto the end of a solid, six year career, the outspoken Crowder has opted to leave well enough alone. He will pursue a career in broadcasting, putting his considerable mouth muscles to use.
Channing Crowder may not have earned a Pro Bowl invitation. Channing Crowder may not have earned a place in the Ring of Honor. But Channing Crowder went to war for the Dolphins for the last six years. He has certainly earned our respect.
